At a glance: ManCom stabilized a recurring iSCSI drive mapping failure that was disrupting firm-wide file access after every server reboot, built proactive DC health monitoring through Datto RMM, and migrated 16 years of project archives off aging NAS to cloud-only retention — eliminating storage pressure while preserving long-term accessibility.
Engagement Overview
ManCom serves as the managed IT partner for Kraemer Engineering, providing full-scope infrastructure support across their Windows Server environment, network-attached storage, and Microsoft 365 workloads. The engagement has included several high-impact projects spanning server stability, monitoring automation, and long-term data management.
iSCSI Drive Mapping Remediation
Kraemer Engineering experienced recurring drive mapping failures following server reboots — iSCSI sessions to KraemerNAS01 were dropping during the Windows startup sequence, leaving mapped drives unavailable until manual intervention. ManCom diagnosed the root cause as a race condition between the iSCSI initiator service and the drive mapping scripts executing at login, with no retry logic in place. ManCom redesigned the drive mapping process with iSCSI session validation, automatic reconnect logic, and user-facing self-service remediation scripts — eliminating the recurring disruption and removing the dependency on manual IT intervention after every reboot.
DC Health Monitoring via Datto RMM
To provide proactive visibility into the health of Kraemer's primary domain controller (KESVR — Windows Server 2022), ManCom developed a custom DC health monitoring component deployed through Datto RMM. The monitor tracks critical AD, DNS, DFS, and replication health indicators on a scheduled basis, surfacing issues before they impact end users and providing ManCom with automated alerting for out-of-threshold conditions.
Archive Migration to Cloud Retention
Kraemer's NAS F: drive carried 16 years of project archive folders (1994–2010) that were consuming significant on-premises storage and creating backup overhead. ManCom scoped and executed a migration of the full archive set to cloud-only retention using Datto Infinite Retention, established an SFTP-based restore process for on-demand retrieval, and updated all Robocopy jobs to exclude the Archives directory — freeing NAS capacity and simplifying the ongoing backup footprint.
